VitiligoTreatment

Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition characterized by the loss of pigmentation, resulting in white patches on the skin. This condition occurs when the melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color), are destroyed. The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors.

Symptoms of Vitiligo

The primary symptom of vitiligo is the appearance of white patches on the skin. These patches can develop anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on:

  • Face: Around the mouth, eyes, and nostrils.
  • Hands and Feet: Fingers, toes, and the backs of hands and feet.
  • Elbows and Knees: Areas prone to friction.
  • Genitals: In some cases.
  • Hair: Vitiligo can also affect hair, turning it white or gray, including eyelashes, eyebrows, and scalp hair.
