Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation (PE) is a common sexual dysfunction in men, characterized by ejaculation that occurs sooner than desired, either before or shortly after penetration, causing distress to one or both partners. It can lead to frustration, anxiety, and avoidance of sexual intimacy. PE can be classified into two types: lifelong (primary) and acquired (secondary).
Types of Premature Ejaculation
Lifelong (Primary) Premature Ejaculation:
- Occurs from the first sexual experience and persists throughout life.
- Often has a strong genetic or neurobiological basis.
- Affects around 1-3% of men.
Acquired (Secondary) Premature Ejaculation:
- Develops later in life after previous normal sexual function.
- Can be caused by psychological factors, medical conditions, or relationship issues.
